Missionary Biographies: NHCS 3rd Grade

A few weeks ago, I visited NHCS to speak during elementary chapel on my short-term trip to the Philippines. These precious kids raised money for me and prayed for me for 1/2 the school year! I am so super blessed by these kids. The third grade teacher, Randi Gutierez invited me to come back to her room to hear the kids share their missionary biographies later that day. I wasn't able to make it, but she sent me this email. I hope it touches your heart like it did mine!

Here Mary, this was the best part of the missionary book reports. This just warmed my heart. Hope it does yours.

How a Missionary Inspired Me

Jack:
David Brainerd makes me want to tell people about Jesus and be nice to other people. I will show others Jesus’ love.

Maseo:
Billy Graham—What I learned from this person was how to be more spiritual. He inspired me to be a preacher some day and to chase my dreams instead of giving up.

Marquel:
David Zeisberger—What I learned from reading about this person was that I should not be afraid of anything if I trust in God. He is always protecting us so I shouldn’t be afraid. I need to stand up for the Bible and if someone threatens to kill me to just trust God.

Joseph:
D.L. Moody—I learned that you can do a lot when you are determined. I also learned that even though Moody was not taught much in school, he was able to effectively teach many people about God. I was inspired by Moody because God used him for big things, even though he wasn’t educated. Now that I’ve read about D.L. Moody, whenever I meet someone new, I will now tell them about God and what Jesus did on the cross for us.

Jaden:
C.S Lewis—After reading about C.S. Lewis it made me make a book. I want to read more of God’s Word. Also to learn about God and to live the way God tells us to.

Erik:
David Livingstone—I learned that you should tell everyone you know and don’t know about Jesus Christ and God.

Faith:
Luis Palau inspired me by doing lots of things to other people. He inspired me by praying for other people to believe in Jesus Christ. When I grow up I would help other people like Luis by helping them read the Bible and go to church.
Rebecca:
Joy Ridderhof—I learned that you should always rejoice even when you have problems. I will try to rejoice more.

Zoe:
Florence Nightingale—What I learned is that if you work hard you will succeed. Florence Nightingale inspired me by never giving up. When I feel like I can’t do something, I’ll think of Florence Nightingale, God’s servant at the Battlefield.

Erin:
Amy Carmichael—What I learned is that kindness will help every hard time. Amy inspired me by how she was so calm in all of her hard times, it amazed me! What I‘ll do is I’ll pray more that God will help me with my hard days.

Marisa:
Roger Williams taught me to tell others about God. He inspired me to not be scared of preaching about God. Now I will not be afraid of preaching. The part of the book that inspired me was when Roger was preaching and he wasn’t afraid. So now I will not be afraid of preaching.

Shadowfeet by Brooke Fraser

Shadowfeet"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4KiGN1j1No

Walking, stumbling on these shadowfeet
towards home, a land that i've never seen
I am changing; less and less asleep
made of different stuff than when i began
And I've sensed it all along
fast approaching is the day

[CHORUS:]
when the world has fallen out from under me
I'll be found in you, still standing
When the sky rolls up and the mountains fall on their knees
when time and space are through
I'll be found in you

There's distraction buzzing in my head
saying in the shadows it's easier to stay
but I've heard rumours of true reality
whispers of a well-lit way

[CHORUS]

You make all things new

[CHORUS]

[CHORUS 2:]
When the world has fallen out from under me
I'll be found in you, still standing
Every fear and accusation under my feet
when time and space are through
I'll be found in you

NTM Shares how they were Refreshed!

Very cool note about how our Philippines Team was used to minister to the missionaries and families. http://blogs.ntm.org/robert-smith/2012/01/27/finding-refreshment-from-afar/

By the way, I'm just getting to finishing putting up pictures and notes after sharing about the trip with New Hope Christian School elementary last Friday. I guess you could say they motivated me to get moving! :)

Cunninghams Travel the Globe: Joy's Uganda Blog

One of the really cool things about this year so far is that both Joy and I have been able to travel overseas on short-term mission trips! Only a few weeks after I returned home in January, Joy traveled to Uganda with River Valley Church (Grants Pass, OR). You can check out her blog at: http://beautifulblueadventures.blogspot.com/

What's even more amazing is that, in the past year, 5 of the 9 Cunningham kids have traveled across the globe for the purpose of missions...which basically means serving others and sharing God's love with them. Noah, Eli and Cathy traveled to Thailand last July with a college basketball team to build relationships with other bball players as well as orphans. I believe that each of these trips was inspired by our wonderful mamma!
